A qualified medical evaluator (QME) through the California Department of Industrial Relations, Dr. Gilbert Varela has more than two decades of experience in the medical industry. He focuses on worker's compensation and personal injury cases through his position as president and medical director of the Varela Medical Group in Los Angeles. Dr. Gilbert Varela also serves as president and CEO of Alliance Health Systems, a medical IPA contracting with an extensive network of primary medical doctors and specialists.
Since 2002, he has also been involved in treatment for those with addictions through his leadership of Sadler Healthcare, Inc., which provides residential services licensed by the California Department of Healthcare Services (DHCS). Its services include three separate residences with a total of 96 beds: Seville House, Menlo House, and Mariposa House.
Dr. Varela earned his medical degree from UC Irvine Medical School. He also has an MBA in business from Pepperdine University and a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology from Claremont College. His professional memberships include the California Society of Addiction Medicine and the California Primary Care Association.
